When we compared Martinez Elementary School, which is a part of ABILENE ISD, with Bowie Elementary School, which is a part of ABILENE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Martinez Elementary School has a regular student population of 458 with a 13.7 students/teacher ratio while Bowie Elementary School has 492 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.2 students/teacher ratio.
Martinez Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 58 in student achievement, 74 in school progress and 69 in closing performance gaps. On the other hand, Bowie Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 73 in student achievement, 88 in school progress, 78 in closing performance gaps and 85 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Martinez Elementary School and Bowie Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Martinez Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 75.98% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (12.66%), African Americans (8.30%), Two or More Races (2.84%) and Native Americans (0.22%). There is no Asians student in the school.
The student population at Bowie Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 51.63%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (36.79%), African Americans (7.11%), Two or More Races (2.85%), Native Americans (0.61%) and Asians (0.41%).
Based on household incomes, Martinez Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 86.68% compared to 76.22% at Bowie Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Martinez Elementary School has a slightly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 4.37% of its student population compared to 1.83% at Bowie Elementary School.
In addition, Martinez Elementary School has 4.37% bilingual students, 2.40% are in the gifted and talented program, while 18.78% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Bowie Elementary School with 1.83% bilingual students, 5.28% gifted and talented students and 22.76% students in the special education program.
