Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Mahaffey Elementary School, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, with Greenwood Forest Elementary School, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Mahaffey Elementary School has a regular student population of 880 with a 13.8 students/teacher ratio while Greenwood Forest Elementary School has 680 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.7 students/teacher ratio.
Mahaffey Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Mahaffey Elementary School's four out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Science, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Greenwood Forest Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Mahaffey Elementary School. They make up for 48.52% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (33.98%), African Americans (10.00%), Two or More Races (3.75%), Asians (3.30%) and Native Americans (0.34%).
At Greenwood Forest Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 61.62% of student population, followed by African Americans (24.41%), Asians (5.00%), Whites or Caucasians (4.85%), Two or More Races (3.97%) and Native Americans (0.15%).
Based on household incomes, the Mahaffey Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 44.43% compared to 70.88% at Greenwood Forest Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Mahaffey Elementary School has a higher number of English Language Learners comprising 27.27% of its student population compared to 32.21% at Greenwood Forest Elementary School.
Mahaffey Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 27.50%, gifted and talented students, 4.89%, while 12.27% are in the special education program. Greenwood Forest Elementary School bilingual students comprise 32.35%, gifted and talented students, 1.47%, and 14.56% are in the special education program.
