Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Lewisville Elementary School, which is a part of LEWISVILLE ISD, with Prairie Trail Elementary, which is a part of LEWISVILLE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Lewisville Elementary School has a regular student population of 533 with a 10 students/teacher ratio while Prairie Trail Elementary has 633 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.1 students/teacher ratio.
Lewisville Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 57 in student achievement, 79 in school progress and 72 in closing performance gaps. It scored 77 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Prairie Trail Elementary earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 91 in student achievement, 90 in school progress, 81 in closing performance gaps and 88 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Lewisville Elementary School and Prairie Trail Elementary are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Lewisville Elementary School. They make up for 61.73% of student population, followed by African Americans (27.39%), Whites or Caucasians (4.32%), Two or More Races (3.94%) and Asians (2.63%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Prairie Trail Elementary is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 47.39%, followed by Hispanics (32.23%), Asians (9.95%), Two or More Races (5.37%) and African Americans (5.06%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Lewisville Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 82.18% compared to 21.80% at Prairie Trail Elementary.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Lewisville Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 49.16% of its student population compared to 20.38% at Prairie Trail Elementary.
In addition, Lewisville Elementary School has 49.16% bilingual students, 3.56% are in the gifted and talented program, while 21.39% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Prairie Trail Elementary with 39.65% bilingual students, 6.16% gifted and talented students and 14.38% students in the special education program.
53 teachers employed at Lewisville Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 6.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.9 years. The 48 teachers at Prairie Trail Elementary have been serving the school for an average of 9.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.7 years.
Of its teaching staff, Lewisville Elementary School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has eight teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 18 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 13 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 12 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers. Prairie Trail Elementary no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has 11 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 12 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 15 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while six teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including five beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Lewisville Elementary School there are 48 female teachers and four male teachers. Of its teaching staff, three special education teachers are being assisted by 11 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has four staff members in the school administration department and four more working as school support staff.
