Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Landis Elementary School, which is a part of ALIEF ISD, with Sneed Elementary School, which is a part of ALIEF ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Landis Elementary School has a regular student population of 606 with a 11.9 students/teacher ratio while Sneed Elementary School has 1,006 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.2 students/teacher ratio.
Landis Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 60 in student achievement, 80 in school progress and 71 in closing performance gaps. It scored 77 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Sneed Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 60 in student achievement, 88 in school progress, 74 in closing performance gaps and 84 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Landis Elementary School and Sneed Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Landis Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 79.04% of student population, followed by African Americans (15.84%), Whites or Caucasians (2.81%), Asians (1.82%) and Native Americans (0.50%). There is no Two or More Races student in the school.
At Sneed Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 64.31% of student population, followed by African Americans (28.83%), Whites or Caucasians (4.47%), Asians (0.99%), Native Americans (0.89%) and Two or More Races (0.20%).
Based on household incomes, Landis Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 90.76% compared to 88.17% at Sneed Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Landis Elementary School has 458 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 75.58% of student population. Sneed Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 653 or about 64.91% of student population.
In addition, Landis Elementary School has 76.07% bilingual students, 0.50% are in the gifted and talented program, while 11.06% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Sneed Elementary School with 64.81% bilingual students, 0.60% gifted and talented students and 6.26% students in the special education program.
51 teachers employed at Landis Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 10.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging 14.8 years. The 76 teachers at Sneed Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 7.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.3 years.

Sneed Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 32 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 12 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 23 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including four beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Landis Elementary School there are 43 female teachers and seven male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 11 teachers are aides or paraprofessionals.
