Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Katy Elementary School, which is a part of KATY ISD, with Bryant Elementary School, which is a part of KATY ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Katy Elementary School has a regular student population of 657 with a 13.3 students/teacher ratio while Bryant Elementary School has 1,322 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15.7 students/teacher ratio.
Katy Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 92 in student achievement, 86 in school progress and an impressive100 in closing performance gaps. It scored 94 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Bryant Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 86 in student achievement, 69 in school progress, 77 in closing performance gaps and 83 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Katy Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Science and 25% closing performance gaps. Bryant Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Katy Elementary School is Whites or Caucasians who make up nearly 66.82% of student population, followed by Hispanics (21.92%), African Americans (5.94%), Two or More Races (2.89%), Asians (1.52%) and Native Americans (0.30%).
The student population at Bryant Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 41.53%, followed by Hispanics (24.43%), African Americans (13.92%), Asians (12.78%), Two or More Races (6.43%) and Native Americans (0.30%).
Based on household incomes, Katy Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 21.61% compared to 21.33% at Bryant Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Katy Elementary School has 32 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 4.87% of student population. Bryant Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 202 or about 15.28% of student population.
Katy Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 4.72%, gifted and talented students, 5.63%, while 23.44% are in the special education program. Bryant Elementary School bilingual students comprise 13.84%, gifted and talented students, 2.95%, and 17.10% are in the special education program.
49 teachers employed at Katy Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 9.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.8 years. The 84 teachers at Bryant Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 4.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging 8.5 years.
