Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Juvenile Detent Ctr, which is a part of LAMAR CISD, with Frost Elementary School, which is a part of LAMAR CISD, we noted that the two schools are on opposite ends of the ratings spectrum.
Juvenile Detent Ctr has a regular student population of 22 with a 7.3 students/teacher ratio while Frost Elementary School has 870 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17 students/teacher ratio.

Frost Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Juvenile Detent Ctr has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Juvenile Detent Ctr. They make up for 54.55% of student population, followed by Hispanics (31.82%) and Whites or Caucasians (13.64%). There is no Asians, Native Americans and Two or More Racesstudents in the school.
The student population at Frost Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 48.39%, followed by Hispanics (24.14%), African Americans (17.93%), Two or More Races (4.94%), Asians (4.14%) and Native Americans (0.34%).
Based on household incomes, Juvenile Detent Ctr’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 50.00% compared to 29.54% at Frost Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Juvenile Detent Ctr has no English Language Learners or ELLS. Frost Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 72 or about 8.28% of student population.
Juvenile Detent Ctr has no gifted and talented and bilingual students, while 22.73% are in the special education program. Frost Elementary School 11.95% are in the special education program, 11.03% are in the gifted and talented program, and bilingual students comprise 8.28% students.
three teachers employed at Juvenile Detent Ctr have been teaching in the school for an average of about 14 years with individual teaching experience averaging 21 years. The 51 teachers at Frost Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 3.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging 8.1 years.
Of its teaching staff, Juvenile Detent Ctr no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has two teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, one teacher only has worked for 11-20 years, school has no teacher serving 6-10 years, no teacher serving the school for 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher.
