Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. Juan Seguin Elementary School has a regular student population of 790 with a 16.1 students/teacher ratio while Highlands Elementary School has 562 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.2 students/teacher ratio.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Highlands Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in Science and post-secondary. Juan Seguin Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Juan Seguin Elementary School. They make up for 41.52% of student population, followed by Asians (23.54%), Hispanics (20.89%), Whites or Caucasians (9.62%), Two or More Races (3.80%) and Native Americans (0.63%).
The student population at Highlands Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 30.96%, followed by Asians (27.22%), Hispanics (21.89%), African Americans (12.99%) and Two or More Races (6.94%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Juan Seguin Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 61.65% compared to 36.30% at Highlands Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Juan Seguin Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 34.05% of its student population compared to 21.00% at Highlands Elementary School.
In addition, Juan Seguin Elementary School has 33.67% bilingual students, 0.89% are in the gifted and talented program, while 11.01% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Highlands Elementary School with 20.46% bilingual students, 3.74% gifted and talented students and 15.48% students in the special education program.
