When we compared Jefferson High School, which is a part of EL PASO ISD, with Franklin High School, which is a part of EL PASO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Jefferson High School’s regular student population is 1,168 with a student-teacher ratio of 15.2 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Franklin High School is 3,107 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17.8 students/teacher ratio.
Jefferson High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 71 in student achievement, 83 in school progress and 71 in closing performance gaps. It scored 79 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Franklin High School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 87 in student achievement, 86 in school progress, 79 in closing performance gaps and 85 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Franklin High School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Jefferson High School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Jefferson High School is Hispanics who make up nearly 99.32% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (0.43%), African Americans (0.17%) and Two or More Races (0.09%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.
At Franklin High School, Hispanics make up 82.85% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (11.97%), African Americans (2.09%), Asians (1.80%), Two or More Races (1.13%) and Native Americans (0.10%).
Based on household incomes, Jefferson High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 96.23% compared to 52.49% at Franklin High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Jefferson High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 66.27% of its student population compared to 17.35% at Franklin High School.
In addition, Jefferson High School has 63.27% bilingual students, 7.28% are in the gifted and talented program, while 8.13% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Franklin High School with 14.68% bilingual students, 13.84% gifted and talented students and 9.78% students in the special education program.
Jefferson High School's 76 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 10.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 13.3 years. Franklin High School's 174 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 10 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 13.4 years.
