Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. Jack Lowe Sr Elementary School has a regular student population of 556 with a 14.2 students/teacher ratio while Wilmer-Hutchins Elementary School has 545 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.8 students/teacher ratio.
Jack Lowe Sr Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Both schools garnered only four distinction designations or awards for outstanding performance. For Jack Lowe Sr Elementary School these are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps while Wilmer-Hutchins Elementary School secured in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Jack Lowe Sr Elementary School. They make up for 62.23% of student population, followed by African Americans (18.35%), Asians (12.95%), Whites or Caucasians (2.70%), Two or More Races (2.34%) and Native Americans (0.90%).
At Wilmer-Hutchins Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 59.45% of student population, followed by African Americans (35.78%), Two or More Races (2.20%), Whites or Caucasians (1.65%), Asians (0.55%) and Native Americans (0.37%).
Based on household incomes, Jack Lowe Sr Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 98.02% compared to 95.41% at Wilmer-Hutchins Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Jack Lowe Sr Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 74.64% of its student population compared to 42.02% at Wilmer-Hutchins Elementary School.
Jack Lowe Sr Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 68.53%, gifted and talented students, 9.35%, while 6.65% are in the special education program. Wilmer-Hutchins Elementary School bilingual students comprise 40.73%, gifted and talented students, 8.07%, and 6.24% are in the special education program.
