Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Idea Rise Academy, which is a part of IDEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS, with Idea Edgemere Academy, which is a part of IDEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Idea Rise Academy has a regular student population of 529 with a 19.5 students/teacher ratio while Idea Edgemere Academy has 973 students and a student-teacher ratio of 22.1 students/teacher ratio.
Idea Rise Academy earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 72 in student achievement, 86 in school progress and 77 in closing performance gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Idea Rise Academy's three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Idea Edgemere Academy’s two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Idea Rise Academy. They make up for 48.77% of student population, followed by African Americans (39.13%), Whites or Caucasians (8.70%), Asians (1.89%), Two or More Races (1.32%) and Native Americans (0.19%).
At Idea Edgemere Academy, Hispanics make up 80.58% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (12.23%), African Americans (4.52%), Asians (1.54%), Two or More Races (0.72%) and Native Americans (0.31%).
Based on household incomes, Idea Rise Academy’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 87.52% compared to 65.98% at Idea Edgemere Academy.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Idea Rise Academy has 120 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 22.68% of student population. Idea Edgemere Academy has significantly more ELLs at 267 or about 27.44% of student population.
Idea Rise Academy has no gifted and talented student, while 9.07% are in the special education program, and bilingual students comprise 21.93% students.
