Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Huffman Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, with Daffron Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Huffman Elementary School has a regular student population of 557 with a 13 students/teacher ratio while Daffron Elementary School has 679 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13 students/teacher ratio.
Huffman Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 77 in student achievement, 90 in school progress and 81 in closing performance gaps. It scored 87 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Daffron Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 88 in student achievement, 86 in school progress, 96 in closing performance gaps and 90 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Daffron Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Science, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Huffman Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Huffman Elementary School. They make up for 36.09% of student population, followed by Hispanics (27.29%), Whites or Caucasians (19.57%), Asians (8.98%), Two or More Races (7.36%) and Native Americans (0.36%).
At Daffron Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 57.58% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (16.49%), Asians (12.81%), African Americans (8.10%) and Two or More Races (5.01%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Huffman Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 56.73% compared to 47.28% at Daffron Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Huffman Elementary School has 97 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 17.41% of student population. Daffron Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 389 or about 57.29% of student population.
Huffman Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 17.06%, gifted and talented students, 10.05%, while 12.21% are in the special education program. Daffron Elementary School bilingual students comprise 57.00%, gifted and talented students, 7.36%, and 8.84% are in the special education program.

The 52 teachers at Daffron Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 10.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging 14.5 years.
