Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Homestead Elementary School, which is a part of LEWISVILLE ISD, with Lillie J Jackson Early Childhood Center, which is a part of LEWISVILLE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Homestead Elementary School has a regular student population of 473 with a 12.6 students/teacher ratio while Lillie J Jackson Early Childhood Center has 422 students and a student-teacher ratio of 10.6 students/teacher ratio.
Homestead Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Homestead Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Lillie J Jackson Early Childhood Center did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Homestead Elementary School. They make up for 47.57% of student population, followed by Hispanics (21.14%), Asians (13.32%), African Americans (10.57%), Two or More Races (7.19%) and Native Americans (0.21%).
The student population at Lillie J Jackson Early Childhood Center is also predominantly by Hispanics at 53.32%, followed by African Americans (18.72%), Asians (13.51%), Whites or Caucasians (10.90%) and Two or More Races (3.32%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Homestead Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 21.35% compared to 62.56% at Lillie J Jackson Early Childhood Center.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Homestead Elementary School has 43 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 9.09% of student population. Lillie J Jackson Early Childhood Center has significantly more ELLs at 239 or about 56.64% of student population.
Homestead Elementary School 15.43% are in the special education program, 5.92% are in the gifted and talented program, and bilingual students comprise 9.09% students. Lillie J Jackson Early Childhood Center has no gifted and talented student, while 17.54% are in the special education program, and bilingual students comprise 56.87% students.
