Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. This is a critical transition period for students. As they assert their independence, their responsibilities increase, they attend multiple classes and their academic performance are closely monitored and graded. Schools focus on preparing them for the more rigorous academic grind in high school.
When we compared Hofius Intermediate, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, with Hildebrandt Intermediate, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Hofius Intermediate’s regular student population is 1,212 with a 16.6 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Hildebrandt Intermediate is 1,060 students and a 14 students/teacher ratio.
Hofius Intermediate performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 91 in student achievement, 85 in school progress and 87 in closing performance gaps. It scored 90 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Hildebrandt Intermediate earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 80 in student achievement, 82 in school progress, 75 in closing performance gaps and 80 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Hofius Intermediate's one out of seven distinction is in Social Studies. Hildebrandt Intermediate did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Hofius Intermediate. They make up for 42.82% of student population, followed by Hispanics (33.83%), African Americans (10.64%), Asians (7.43%), Two or More Races (5.03%) and Native Americans (0.25%).
The student population at Hildebrandt Intermediate is also predominantly by Hispanics at 46.98%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (30.66%), African Americans (13.21%), Asians (4.25%), Two or More Races (3.77%) and Native Americans (1.04%).
Based on household incomes, the Hofius Intermediate’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 31.85% compared to 54.06% at Hildebrandt Intermediate.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Hofius Intermediate has 134 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 11.06% of student population. Hildebrandt Intermediate has significantly more ELLs at 205 or about 19.34% of student population.
Hofius Intermediate’s bilingual students comprise 10.64%, gifted and talented students, 10.40%, while 9.57% are in the special education program. Hildebrandt Intermediate bilingual students comprise 18.68%, gifted and talented students, 9.25%, and 13.87% are in the special education program.
Hofius Intermediate's 72 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 5.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.3 years. Teachers at Hildebrandt Intermediate, numbering 75 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 7.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.3 years.
Of its teaching staff, Hofius Intermediate no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 28 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 13 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 19 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including six beginning teachers. Hildebrandt Intermediate has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has 15 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 16 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 17 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 19 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including seven beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Hofius Intermediate there are 60 female teachers and 12 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 11 special education teachers are being assisted by eight teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has four staff members in the school administration department and seven more working as school support staff.
At Hildebrandt Intermediate there are 59 female teachers and 16 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 15 special education teachers are being assisted by ten teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has three staff members in the school administration department and eight more working as school support staff.
