Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Anderson Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in with 25% student progress. Highland Hts Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Highland Hts Elementary School. They make up for 54.58% of student population, followed by African Americans (43.07%), Whites or Caucasians (1.49%), Two or More Races (0.64%) and Native Americans (0.21%). There is no Asians student in the school.

Based on household incomes, Highland Hts Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 98.51% compared to 93.02% at Anderson Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Highland Hts Elementary School has 163 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 34.75% of student population. Anderson Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 349 or about 55.40% of student population.
In addition, Highland Hts Elementary School has 34.33% bilingual students, 1.07% are in the gifted and talented program, while 12.58% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Anderson Elementary School with 53.97% bilingual students, 3.65% gifted and talented students and 5.87% students in the special education program.
