It is in this area where the two schools differ. Hector P Garcia Middle School's three out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. W H Gaston Middle School’s only distinction designation is in Social Studies.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Hector P Garcia Middle School is Hispanics who make up nearly 94.35% of student population, followed by African Americans (4.03%), Whites or Caucasians (1.13%), Native Americans (0.32%) and Asians (0.16%). There is no Two or More Races student in the school.
At W H Gaston Middle School, Hispanics make up 82.12% of student population, followed by African Americans (13.59%), Whites or Caucasians (3.15%), Native Americans (0.43%), Two or More Races (0.43%) and Asians (0.14%).
Based on household incomes, Hector P Garcia Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 95.16% compared to 93.56% at W H Gaston Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Hector P Garcia Middle School has a slightly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 70.81% of its student population compared to 61.09% at W H Gaston Middle School.
Hector P Garcia Middle School’s bilingual students comprise 65.00%, gifted and talented students, 17.74%, while 16.77% are in the special education program.
