When we compared Health Careers High School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, with Warren High School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Health Careers High School’s regular student population is 908 with a student-teacher ratio of 15.8 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Warren High School is 2,810 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17.2 students/teacher ratio.
Health Careers High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 98 in student achievement, 94 in school progress and an impressive100 in closing performance gaps. It scored 99 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Warren High School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 84 in student achievement, 80 in school progress, 76 in closing performance gaps and 82 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Health Careers High School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Warren High School’s only distinction designation is in Comparative Academic Growth.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Health Careers High School. They make up for 52.09% of student population, followed by Asians (23.13%), Whites or Caucasians (15.64%), African Americans (5.29%), Two or More Races (3.52%) and Native Americans (0.11%).
At Warren High School, Hispanics make up 75.66% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (12.85%), African Americans (7.15%), Asians (2.03%), Two or More Races (1.99%) and Native Americans (0.11%).
Based on household incomes, the Health Careers High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 24.23% compared to 43.24% at Warren High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Health Careers High School has 7 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 0.77% of student population. Warren High School has significantly more ELLs at 145 or about 5.16% of student population.
Health Careers High School’s bilingual students comprise 0.66%, gifted and talented students, 25.11%, while 0.55% are in the special education program. Warren High School bilingual students comprise 4.73%, gifted and talented students, 9.86%, and 11.53% are in the special education program.
Health Careers High School's 57 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 12.3 years. Warren High School's 163 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 12.1 years.
Of its teaching staff, Health Careers High School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has 11 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 19 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, six teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 18 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including four beginning teachers. Warren High School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has 27 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 62 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 25 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 38 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including ten beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Health Careers High School employs 37 female teachers and 20 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, two teachers are aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs two staff members in the school administration department and eight more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Warren High School employs 91 female teachers and 71 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, nine special education teachers are being assisted by 16 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
