When we compared Hcc Life Skills Program, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, with Young Women's College Prep Academy, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, we noted that the two schools are on opposite ends of the ratings spectrum.
Hcc Life Skills Program’s regular student population is 74 with a student-teacher ratio of 4.1 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Young Women's College Prep Academy is 427 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.5 students/teacher ratio.
Young Women's College Prep Academy earned a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 94 in student achievement, 95 in school progress and an impressive100 in closing performance gaps. It scored 97 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, the performance indicators not applicable for Hcc Life Skills Program.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Young Women's College Prep Academy's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Hcc Life Skills Program has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Hcc Life Skills Program. They make up for 55.41% of student population, followed by African Americans (33.78%), Whites or Caucasians (9.46%) and Asians (1.35%). There is no Native Americans and Two or More Racesstudents in the school.
The student population at Young Women's College Prep Academy is also predominantly by African Americans at 50.35%, followed by Hispanics (42.62%), Whites or Caucasians (3.04%), Asians (1.64%), Two or More Races (1.64%) and Native Americans (0.47%).
Based on household incomes, the Hcc Life Skills Program’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 45.95% compared to 69.79% at Young Women's College Prep Academy.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Hcc Life Skills Program has 4 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 5.41% of student population. Young Women's College Prep Academy has significantly more ELLs at 28 or about 6.56% of student population.
Hcc Life Skills Program has no gifted and talented student, while 100.00% are in the special education program, and bilingual students comprise 2.70% students. Young Women's College Prep Academy 1.87% are in the special education program, 34.89% are in the gifted and talented program, and bilingual students comprise 7.96% students.
Hcc Life Skills Program's 18 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 12.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 17.6 years. Young Women's College Prep Academy's 29 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 10.6 years.
Of its teaching staff, Hcc Life Skills Program has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has five teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, four teachers have worked for 11-20 years, six teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while one teacher only has been serving the school for over 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher. Young Women's College Prep Academy has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, five teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while eight teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Hcc Life Skills Program employs 13 female teachers and five male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 16 special education teachers are being assisted by two teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs two staff members in the school administration department.
On the other hand, Young Women's College Prep Academy employs 23 female teachers and six male teachers. The school also employs three staff members in the school administration department and three more working as school support staff.
