Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Franz Elementary School, which is a part of KATY ISD, with Bear Creek Elementary School, which is a part of KATY ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Franz Elementary School has a regular student population of 932 with a 11.9 students/teacher ratio while Bear Creek Elementary School has 664 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11 students/teacher ratio.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Franz Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Bear Creek Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Franz Elementary School. They make up for 64.70% of student population, followed by African Americans (19.64%), Whites or Caucasians (8.48%), Asians (3.43%), Two or More Races (3.00%) and Native Americans (0.32%).
At Bear Creek Elementary School, Hispanics make up 68.07% of student population, followed by African Americans (15.51%), Whites or Caucasians (13.10%), Two or More Races (1.66%), Asians (1.51%) and Native Americans (0.15%).
Based on household incomes, the Franz Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 77.47% compared to 82.23% at Bear Creek Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Franz Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 49.68% of its student population compared to 46.23% at Bear Creek Elementary School.
Franz Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 49.57%, gifted and talented students, 1.07%, while 19.31% are in the special education program. Bear Creek Elementary School bilingual students comprise 46.54%, gifted and talented students, 1.05%, and 16.27% are in the special education program.
