As your children go through high school, choosing the right school is equally important as deciding on a perfect home. High school is when students are given the tools to figure out the paths they want to pursue as adults. There are more subjects and extra-curricular activities that students can choose from. When we compared Fox Technical High School, which is a part of SAN ANTONIO ISD, with Edison High School, which is a part of SAN ANTONIO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Fox Technical High School’s regular student population is 475 with a student-teacher ratio of 14.6 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Edison High School is 1,350 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.8 students/teacher ratio.
Fox Technical High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 88 in student achievement, 89 in school progress and 81 in closing performance gaps. It scored 87 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Edison High School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 79 in student achievement, 82 in school progress, 72 in closing performance gaps and 79 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Fox Technical High School's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science, Social Studies and post-secondary. Edison High School’s only distinction designation is in Post-Secondary.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Fox Technical High School is Hispanics who make up nearly 94.11% of student population, followed by African Americans (2.74%), Whites or Caucasians (2.11%), Two or More Races (0.84%) and Asians (0.21%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Edison High School, Hispanics make up 96.67% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (1.63%), African Americans (1.33%), Asians (0.22%), Native Americans (0.07%) and Two or More Races (0.07%).
Based on household incomes, the Fox Technical High School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 85.05% compared to 89.11% at Edison High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Fox Technical High School has 68 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 14.32% of student population. Edison High School has significantly more ELLs at 345 or about 25.56% of student population.
Fox Technical High School’s bilingual students comprise 12.63%, gifted and talented students, 11.37%, while 7.16% are in the special education program. Edison High School bilingual students comprise 25.85%, gifted and talented students, 7.26%, and 12.89% are in the special education program.
Fox Technical High School's 32 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 9.7 years. Edison High School's 98 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 9.5 years.
Of its teaching staff, Fox Technical High School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, eight teachers have worked for 11-20 years, six teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while five teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including nine beginning teachers. Edison High School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has 13 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 22 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 20 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 25 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 17 beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Fox Technical High School employs 20 female teachers and 12 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, two special education teachers are being assisted by one teacher only aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs two staff members in the school administration department and four more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Edison High School employs 59 female teachers and 38 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 17 special education teachers are being assisted by 14 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs five staff members in the school administration department and 15 more working as school support staff.
