Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Foster Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Gallegos Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Foster Elementary School is African Americans who make up nearly 87.21% of student population, followed by Hispanics (11.00%), Whites or Caucasians (0.77%), Two or More Races (0.77%) and Native Americans (0.26%). There is no Asians student in the school.
At Gallegos Elementary School, Hispanics make up 97.00% of student population, followed by African Americans (2.70%) and Whites or Caucasians (0.30%). There is no Asians, Native Americans and Two or More Racesstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, Foster Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 98.21% compared to 97.90% at Gallegos Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Foster Elementary School has 21 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 5.37% of student population. Gallegos Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 165 or about 49.55% of student population.
In addition, Foster Elementary School has 5.37% bilingual students, 0.51% are in the gifted and talented program, while 7.67% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Gallegos Elementary School with 45.65% bilingual students, 7.81% gifted and talented students and 13.51% students in the special education program.
