Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Fiest Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, with Ault Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Fiest Elementary School has a regular student population of 907 with a 15.8 students/teacher ratio while Ault Elementary School has 961 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.5 students/teacher ratio.
Fiest Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 72 in student achievement, 82 in school progress and 75 in closing performance gaps. It scored 80 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Ault Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 92 in student achievement, 91 in school progress, 94 in closing performance gaps and 93 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Ault Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in Science and post-secondary. Fiest Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Fiest Elementary School. They make up for 38.92% of student population, followed by African Americans (27.12%), Whites or Caucasians (18.74%), Asians (9.81%), Two or More Races (4.63%) and Native Americans (0.66%).
The student population at Ault Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 45.06%, followed by Hispanics (29.55%), African Americans (12.59%), Asians (8.53%), Two or More Races (3.75%) and Native Americans (0.21%).
Based on household incomes, Fiest Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 67.70% compared to 37.46% at Ault Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Fiest Elementary School has a higher number of English Language Learners comprising 13.34% of its student population compared to 11.86% at Ault Elementary School.
In addition, Fiest Elementary School has 12.90% bilingual students, 3.86% are in the gifted and talented program, while 13.23% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Ault Elementary School with 11.13% bilingual students, 6.66% gifted and talented students and 9.89% students in the special education program.
57 teachers employed at Fiest Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 9.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.7 years. The 66 teachers at Ault Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 11.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging 14.4 years.
Of its teaching staff, Fiest Elementary School has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has nine teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 16 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 16 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including three beginning teachers. Ault Elementary School has three teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 16 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 20 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 17 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while nine teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including one beginning teacher only.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Fiest Elementary School there are 55 female teachers and two male teachers. Of its teaching staff, ten special education teachers are being assisted by 18 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has three staff members in the school administration department and 12 more working as school support staff.
At Ault Elementary School there are 65 female teachers and one male teacher only. Of its teaching staff, five special education teachers are being assisted by 14 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
