Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Elliott Elementary School, which is a part of FRISCO ISD, with Spears Elementary School, which is a part of FRISCO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Elliott Elementary School has a regular student population of 648 with a 14.7 students/teacher ratio while Spears Elementary School has 787 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.4 students/teacher ratio.
Elliott Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 75 in student achievement, 92 in school progress and 76 in closing performance gaps. It scored 87 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Spears Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 91 in student achievement, 91 in school progress, 89 in closing performance gaps and 90 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Elliott Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in with 25% student progress. Spears Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Elliott Elementary School. They make up for 29.63% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (25.62%), Asians (23.46%), Hispanics (13.12%), Two or More Races (7.41%) and Native Americans (0.46%).
The student population at Spears Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 30.62%, followed by Asians (26.81%), Hispanics (21.73%), African Americans (11.69%), Two or More Races (8.26%) and Native Americans (0.89%).
Based on household incomes, Elliott Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 37.19% compared to 22.49% at Spears Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Elliott Elementary School has 75 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 11.57% of student population. Spears Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 123 or about 15.63% of student population.
In addition, Elliott Elementary School has 10.65% bilingual students, 2.62% are in the gifted and talented program, while 9.26% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Spears Elementary School with 14.99% bilingual students, 4.70% gifted and talented students and 8.89% students in the special education program.
