Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. When we compared Dueitt Middle School, which is a part of SPRING ISD, with Rickey C Bailey Middle School, which is a part of SPRING ISD, we noted a huge gap in ratings.
Dueitt Middle School’s regular student population is 857 with a 15.8 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Rickey C Bailey Middle School is 969 students and a 17 students/teacher ratio.
Dueitt Middle School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365 (Not Rated per SB 1365) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 56 in student achievement, 63 in school progress and 70 in closing performance gaps. It scored 65 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Rickey C Bailey Middle School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 59 in student achievement, 72 in school progress, 71 in closing performance gaps and 72 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Dueitt Middle School and Rickey C Bailey Middle School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Dueitt Middle School. They make up for 49.71% of student population, followed by African Americans (37.81%), Whites or Caucasians (7.93%), Two or More Races (2.33%), Native Americans (1.17%) and Asians (0.70%).
The student population at Rickey C Bailey Middle School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 49.43%, followed by African Americans (40.35%), Native Americans (4.13%), Whites or Caucasians (3.51%), Two or More Races (1.55%) and Asians (1.03%).
Based on household incomes, Dueitt Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 87.28% compared to 83.18% at Rickey C Bailey Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Dueitt Middle School has 218 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 25.44% of student population. Rickey C Bailey Middle School has significantly more ELLs at 257 or about 26.52% of student population.
Dueitt Middle School’s bilingual students comprise 22.99%, gifted and talented students, 6.77%, while 13.65% are in the special education program. Rickey C Bailey Middle School bilingual students comprise 26.11%, gifted and talented students, 5.68%, and 13.42% are in the special education program.
Dueitt Middle School's 54 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 4.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 7.9 years. Teachers at Rickey C Bailey Middle School, numbering 57 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 3.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 5.9 years.
Of its teaching staff, Dueitt Middle School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has two teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 18 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, five teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 18 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including ten beginning teachers. Rickey C Bailey Middle School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has three teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, eight teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 17 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 18 beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Dueitt Middle School there are 31 female teachers and 22 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, seven special education teachers are being assisted by 11 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has four staff members in the school administration department and ten more working as school support staff.
