Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Dozier Elementary School, which is a part of EAGLE MT-SAGINAW ISD, with Eagle Mountain Elementary School, which is a part of EAGLE MT-SAGINAW ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Dozier Elementary School has a regular student population of 658 with a 16.2 students/teacher ratio while Eagle Mountain Elementary School has 429 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.8 students/teacher ratio.
Dozier Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Dozier Elementary School and Eagle Mountain Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Dozier Elementary School. They make up for 35.87% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (32.22%), African Americans (21.73%), Two or More Races (6.23%), Asians (3.19%) and Native Americans (0.15%).
At Eagle Mountain Elementary School, Whites or Caucasians make up 71.33% of student population, followed by Hispanics (19.35%), African Americans (3.73%), Two or More Races (2.56%), Asians (1.86%) and Native Americans (1.17%).
Based on household incomes, Dozier Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 44.53% compared to 13.99% at Eagle Mountain Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Dozier Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 9.42% of its student population compared to 2.10% at Eagle Mountain Elementary School.
In addition, Dozier Elementary School has 8.66% bilingual students, 6.38% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.79% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Eagle Mountain Elementary School with 2.10% bilingual students, 10.96% gifted and talented students and 13.29% students in the special education program.
40 teachers employed at Dozier Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 4.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11 years. The 31 teachers at Eagle Mountain Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 12.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 18.3 years.
Of its teaching staff, Dozier Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has five teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 14 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while ten teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including three beginning teachers. Eagle Mountain Elementary School has four teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has eight teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 11 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, seven teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while one teacher only has been serving the school for over 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Dozier Elementary School there are 38 female teachers and two male teachers. Of its teaching staff, nine special education teachers are being assisted by nine teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and five more working as school support staff.
