It is in this area where the two schools differ. Downtown Montessori At Ida B Wells Academy’s only distinction designation is in Read/ELA. Leslie A Stemmons Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Downtown Montessori At Ida B Wells Academy. Based on household incomes, the Downtown Montessori At Ida B Wells Academy’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 57.09% compared to 91.73% at Leslie A Stemmons Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Downtown Montessori At Ida B Wells Academy has 42 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 15.67% of student population. Leslie A Stemmons Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 405 or about 65.64% of student population.
In addition, Downtown Montessori At Ida B Wells Academy has 32.09% bilingual students, 9.70% are in the gifted and talented program, while 5.60% are in the special education program.
