Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Diane Winborn Elementary School, which is a part of KATY ISD, with Jeanette Hayes Elementary School, which is a part of KATY ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.

It is in this area where the two schools differ. Diane Winborn Elementary School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Science and 25% closing performance gaps. Jeanette Hayes Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Science, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Diane Winborn Elementary School. They make up for 41.74% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (28.61%), African Americans (18.44%), Two or More Races (6.19%) and Asians (4.87%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Jeanette Hayes Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 40.83%, followed by Hispanics (22.31%), Asians (20.00%), African Americans (8.60%), Two or More Races (7.44%) and Native Americans (0.17%).
Based on household incomes, Diane Winborn Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 61.80% compared to 39.67% at Jeanette Hayes Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Diane Winborn Elementary School has 95 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 14.01% of student population. Jeanette Hayes Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 184 or about 30.41% of student population.
In addition, Diane Winborn Elementary School has 13.57% bilingual students, 2.51% are in the gifted and talented program, while 21.68% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Jeanette Hayes Elementary School with 29.92% bilingual students, 4.46% gifted and talented students and 15.70% students in the special education program.
