Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Daggett Elementary School and Bruce Shulkey Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Daggett Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 81.43% of student population, followed by African Americans (8.26%), Whites or Caucasians (7.13%), Asians (1.69%) and Two or More Races (1.50%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Bruce Shulkey Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 37.59%, followed by African Americans (27.71%), Whites or Caucasians (21.20%), Two or More Races (6.51%), Asians (6.02%) and Native Americans (0.24%).
Based on household incomes, Daggett Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 85.74% compared to 84.10% at Bruce Shulkey Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Daggett Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 48.59% of its student population compared to 18.80% at Bruce Shulkey Elementary School.
Daggett Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 51.03%, gifted and talented students, 4.69%, while 16.32% are in the special education program. Bruce Shulkey Elementary School bilingual students comprise 17.35%, gifted and talented students, 2.89%, and 16.87% are in the special education program.
