Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. This is a critical transition period for students. As they assert their independence, their responsibilities increase, they attend multiple classes and their academic performance are closely monitored and graded. Schools focus on preparing them for the more rigorous academic grind in high school.

Cryar Intermediate’s regular student population is 771 with a 15.8 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Peet Junior High School is 1,282 students and a 14.9 students/teacher ratio.
Cryar Intermediate earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 84 in student achievement, 87 in school progress and 82 in closing performance gaps. It scored 86 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Peet Junior High School also earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 82 in student achievement, 86 in school progress, 81 in closing performance gaps and 85 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Cryar Intermediate's two out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics and post-secondary. Except for Mathematics, Peet Junior High School earned one out of seven distinctions.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Cryar Intermediate. They make up for 40.08% of student population, followed by Hispanics (35.54%), African Americans (14.79%), Asians (4.80%), Two or More Races (4.28%) and Native Americans (0.52%).
The student population at Peet Junior High School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 44.54%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (34.87%), African Americans (14.04%), Two or More Races (3.20%), Asians (2.65%) and Native Americans (0.47%).
Based on household incomes, Cryar Intermediate’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 55.90% compared to 55.30% at Peet Junior High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Cryar Intermediate has 139 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 18.03% of student population. Peet Junior High School has significantly more ELLs at 274 or about 21.37% of student population.
In addition, Cryar Intermediate has 17.51% bilingual students, 7.65% are in the gifted and talented program, while 12.45% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Peet Junior High School with 20.51% bilingual students, 8.35% gifted and talented students and 12.17% students in the special education program.
Cryar Intermediate's 48 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 3.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging 6.3 years. Teachers at Peet Junior High School, numbering 86 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 7.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.9 years.
Of its teaching staff, Cryar Intermediate no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, six teachers have worked for 11-20 years, eight teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 26 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including five beginning teachers. Peet Junior High School has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 14 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 29 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 23 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 16 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including three beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Cryar Intermediate there are 40 female teachers and eight male teachers.
