Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Coop Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, with Eliot Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Coop Elementary School has a regular student population of 568 with a 17 students/teacher ratio while Eliot Elementary School has 524 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.5 students/teacher ratio.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Eliot Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Science, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Coop Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Coop Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 89.08% of student population, followed by African Americans (8.98%), Whites or Caucasians (1.58%) and Two or More Races (0.35%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.
At Eliot Elementary School, Hispanics make up 98.09% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (0.95%), African Americans (0.57%) and Asians (0.38%). There is no Native Americans and Two or More Racesstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, Coop Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 97.36% compared to 94.27% at Eliot Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Coop Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 50.88% of its student population compared to 50.95% at Eliot Elementary School.
In addition, Coop Elementary School has 63.03% bilingual students, 2.82% are in the gifted and talented program, while 8.80% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Eliot Elementary School with 50.38% bilingual students, 6.49% gifted and talented students and 10.88% students in the special education program.
