When we compared Cook Elementary School, which is a part of AUSTIN ISD, with Palm Elementary School, which is a part of AUSTIN ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Palm Elementary School's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Cook Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Cook Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 90.68% of student population, followed by African Americans (3.50%), Whites or Caucasians (3.50%), Two or More Races (1.17%), Asians (0.70%) and Native Americans (0.47%).
At Palm Elementary School, Hispanics make up 91.40% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (3.72%), African Americans (3.15%), Two or More Races (0.86%), Asians (0.57%) and Native Americans (0.29%).
Based on household incomes, Cook Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 92.31% compared to 87.39% at Palm Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Cook Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 75.99% of its student population compared to 51.00% at Palm Elementary School.
In addition, Cook Elementary School has 78.09% bilingual students, 3.26% are in the gifted and talented program, while 8.39% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Palm Elementary School with 51.86% bilingual students, 4.58% gifted and talented students and 12.61% students in the special education program.
