As your children go through high school, choosing the right school is equally important as deciding on a perfect home. High school is when students are given the tools to figure out the paths they want to pursue as adults. There are more subjects and extra-curricular activities that students can choose from. When we compared Conroe High School, which is a part of CONROE ISD, with Grand Oaks High School, which is a part of CONROE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Conroe High School’s regular student population is 4,619 with a student-teacher ratio of 16.4 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Grand Oaks High School is 3,308 students and a student-teacher ratio of 18.3 students/teacher ratio.
Conroe High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 80 in student achievement, 79 in school progress and 74 in closing performance gaps. It scored 78 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Grand Oaks High School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 91 in student achievement, 81 in school progress, 77 in closing performance gaps and 87 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Conroe High School and Grand Oaks High School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Conroe High School. They make up for 55.21% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (28.40%), African Americans (11.63%), Two or More Races (2.27%), Asians (1.95%) and Native Americans (0.43%).
The student population at Grand Oaks High School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 47.25%, followed by Hispanics (27.60%), African Americans (15.30%), Asians (4.87%), Two or More Races (4.35%) and Native Americans (0.18%).
Based on household incomes, Conroe High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 57.48% compared to 21.74% at Grand Oaks High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Conroe High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 20.59% of its student population compared to 2.27% at Grand Oaks High School.
In addition, Conroe High School has 19.55% bilingual students, 3.81% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.67% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Grand Oaks High School with 1.87% bilingual students, 8.10% gifted and talented students and 5.41% students in the special education program.
Conroe High School's 282 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 11.5 years. Grand Oaks High School's 180 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 3.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 9.3 years.
Of its teaching staff, Conroe High School has nine teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 31 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 93 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 66 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 74 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including nine beginning teachers. Grand Oaks High School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has 17 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 57 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 38 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 52 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 18 beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Conroe High School employs 174 female teachers and 108 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 51 special education teachers are being assisted by 44 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs 16 staff members in the school administration department and 38 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Grand Oaks High School employs 97 female teachers and 82 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 23 special education teachers are being assisted by 16 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs ten staff members in the school administration department and 22 more working as school support staff.
