When we compared Cinco Ranch High School, which is a part of KATY ISD, with Morton Ranch High School, which is a part of KATY ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Cinco Ranch High School’s regular student population is 3,474 with a student-teacher ratio of 17.7 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Morton Ranch High School is 2,540 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15 students/teacher ratio.
Cinco Ranch High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 95 in student achievement, 89 in school progress and 94 in closing performance gaps. It scored 95 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Morton Ranch High School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 81 in student achievement, 82 in school progress, 72 in closing performance gaps and 79 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Cinco Ranch High School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Morton Ranch High School’s three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science and Social Studies.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Cinco Ranch High School. They make up for 39.35% of student population, followed by Hispanics (32.99%), Asians (15.57%), African Americans (8.52%), Two or More Races (3.48%) and Native Americans (0.03%).
At Morton Ranch High School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 58.98% of student population, followed by African Americans (19.65%), Whites or Caucasians (13.35%), Asians (4.72%), Two or More Races (2.60%) and Native Americans (0.47%).
Based on household incomes, the Cinco Ranch High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 31.38% compared to 68.74% at Morton Ranch High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Cinco Ranch High School has 356 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 10.25% of student population. Morton Ranch High School has significantly more ELLs at 401 or about 15.79% of student population.
Cinco Ranch High School’s bilingual students comprise 10.02%, gifted and talented students, 12.18%, while 7.94% are in the special education program. Morton Ranch High School bilingual students comprise 15.39%, gifted and talented students, 3.19%, and 12.40% are in the special education program.
Cinco Ranch High School's 196 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 12.7 years. Morton Ranch High School's 169 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 11.5 years.
Of its teaching staff, Cinco Ranch High School has nine teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 32 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 58 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 38 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 49 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 11 beginning teachers. Morton Ranch High School has five teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 22 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 50 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 41 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 35 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 16 beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Cinco Ranch High School employs 121 female teachers and 75 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 22 special education teachers are being assisted by 25 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs seven staff members in the school administration department and 22 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Morton Ranch High School employs 97 female teachers and 72 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 23 special education teachers are being assisted by 31 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs seven staff members in the school administration department and 22 more working as school support staff.
