Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. This is a critical transition period for students. As they assert their independence, their responsibilities increase, they attend multiple classes and their academic performance are closely monitored and graded. Schools focus on preparing them for the more rigorous academic grind in high school.
When we compared Cele Middle School, which is a part of PFLUGERVILLE ISD, with Kelly Lane Middle School, which is a part of PFLUGERVILLE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Cele Middle School’s regular student population is 726 with a 14.2 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Kelly Lane Middle School is 1,037 students and a 17 students/teacher ratio.
Cele Middle School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 91 in student achievement, 89 in school progress and 96 in closing performance gaps. It scored 93 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Cele Middle School and Kelly Lane Middle School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Cele Middle School. They make up for 35.26% of student population, followed by Hispanics (34.30%), African Americans (12.67%), Asians (9.50%), Two or More Races (7.99%) and Native Americans (0.14%).
The student population at Kelly Lane Middle School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 39.44%, followed by Hispanics (35.97%), African Americans (11.28%), Asians (8.10%), Two or More Races (4.73%) and Native Americans (0.19%).
Based on household incomes, Cele Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 20.66% compared to 19.96% at Kelly Lane Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Cele Middle School has 67 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 9.23% of student population. Kelly Lane Middle School has slightly more ELLs at 78 or about 7.52% of student population.
Cele Middle School’s bilingual students comprise 9.09%, gifted and talented students, 11.43%, while 9.37% are in the special education program. Kelly Lane Middle School bilingual students comprise 7.33%, gifted and talented students, 10.99%, and 9.26% are in the special education program.
Cele Middle School's 51 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.8 years. Teachers at Kelly Lane Middle School, numbering 61 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 5.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.2 years.
Of its teaching staff, Cele Middle School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 25 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, eight teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while six teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including six beginning teachers. At Kelly Lane Middle School there are 43 female teachers and 18 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, ten special education teachers are being assisted by nine teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has three staff members in the school administration department and six more working as school support staff.
