Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Carver Elementary School, which is a part of GOOSE CREEK CISD, with San Jacinto Elementary School, which is a part of GOOSE CREEK CISD, we noted that the two schools are on opposite ends of the ratings spectrum.
Carver Elementary School has a regular student population of 653 with a 14.3 students/teacher ratio while San Jacinto Elementary School has 397 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.2 students/teacher ratio.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
San Jacinto Elementary School's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Carver Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Carver Elementary School. They make up for 65.54% of student population, followed by African Americans (23.58%), Whites or Caucasians (7.66%), Two or More Races (1.99%), Native Americans (0.77%) and Asians (0.46%).
At San Jacinto Elementary School, Hispanics make up 82.87% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (9.07%), African Americans (5.54%), Two or More Races (2.27%) and Native Americans (0.25%). There is no Asians student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Carver Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 88.82% compared to 86.40% at San Jacinto Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Carver Elementary School has a higher number of English Language Learners comprising 25.11% of its student population compared to 39.80% at San Jacinto Elementary School.
In addition, Carver Elementary School has 32.01% bilingual students, 2.91% are in the gifted and talented program, while 12.40% are in the special education program. This stacks up against San Jacinto Elementary School with 38.54% bilingual students, 4.53% gifted and talented students and 16.12% students in the special education program.
