Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Cannaday Elementary School, which is a part of MESQUITE ISD, with Thompson Elementary School, which is a part of MESQUITE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.

On the other hand, Thompson Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 59 in student achievement, 79 in school progress, 72 in closing performance gaps and 77 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Cannaday Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and Science. Thompson Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Cannaday Elementary School. They make up for 46.11% of student population, followed by African Americans (37.48%), Whites or Caucasians (10.02%), Asians (2.94%), Two or More Races (2.76%) and Native Americans (0.52%).
At Thompson Elementary School, African Americans are the biggest group, comprising 64.82% of student population, followed by Hispanics (20.68%), Whites or Caucasians (7.82%), Two or More Races (4.07%), Asians (2.28%) and Native Americans (0.16%).
Based on household incomes, Cannaday Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 85.49% compared to 79.80% at Thompson Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Cannaday Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 35.41% of its student population compared to 6.84% at Thompson Elementary School.
Cannaday Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 35.41%, gifted and talented students, 3.80%, while 14.85% are in the special education program. Thompson Elementary School bilingual students comprise 6.03%, gifted and talented students, 2.61%, and 11.89% are in the special education program.
