Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Camey Elementary School, which is a part of LEWISVILLE ISD, with Timber Creek Elementary School, which is a part of LEWISVILLE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Camey Elementary School has a regular student population of 502 with a 11.2 students/teacher ratio while Timber Creek Elementary School has 458 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.5 students/teacher ratio.
Camey Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 74 in student achievement, 88 in school progress and 76 in closing performance gaps. It scored 84 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Timber Creek Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 90 in student achievement, 88 in school progress, 94 in closing performance gaps and 91 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Timber Creek Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics and 25% closing performance gaps. Camey Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Camey Elementary School. They make up for 45.42% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (26.29%), African Americans (16.73%), Two or More Races (7.97%), Asians (3.19%) and Native Americans (0.40%).
The student population at Timber Creek Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 52.84%, followed by Hispanics (21.83%), Asians (9.17%), African Americans (8.52%), Two or More Races (6.99%) and Native Americans (0.66%).
Based on household incomes, Camey Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 53.39% compared to 27.51% at Timber Creek Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Camey Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 28.88% of its student population compared to 13.10% at Timber Creek Elementary School.
Camey Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 40.04%, gifted and talented students, 4.98%, while 15.94% are in the special education program. Timber Creek Elementary School bilingual students comprise 12.88%, gifted and talented students, 3.71%, and 27.95% are in the special education program.
45 teachers employed at Camey Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 6.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.3 years. The 39 teachers at Timber Creek Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 8.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.9 years.
Of its teaching staff, Camey Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has seven teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 12 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 11 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including four beginning teachers. Timber Creek Elementary School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has seven teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 12 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, ten teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while five teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including five beginning teachers.
