Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. When we compared C M Rice Middle School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, with Renner Middle School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
C M Rice Middle School’s regular student population is 939 with a 16.7 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Renner Middle School is 1,169 students and a 15.8 students/teacher ratio.
C M Rice Middle School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. It is in this area where the two schools differ. C M Rice Middle School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Renner Middle School’s only distinction designation is in Mathematics.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in C M Rice Middle School is Asians who make up nearly 66.24% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (17.68%), Hispanics (7.56%), African Americans (5.32%) and Two or More Races (3.19%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Renner Middle School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 30.37%, followed by Hispanics (28.31%), Asians (20.53%), African Americans (16.51%), Two or More Races (4.11%) and Native Americans (0.17%).
Based on household incomes, the C M Rice Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 11.50% compared to 26.43% at Renner Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, C M Rice Middle School has 79 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 8.41% of student population. Renner Middle School has significantly more ELLs at 230 or about 19.67% of student population.
C M Rice Middle School’s bilingual students comprise 8.20%, gifted and talented students, 47.60%, while 6.18% are in the special education program. Renner Middle School bilingual students comprise 19.42%, gifted and talented students, 20.02%, and 8.55% are in the special education program.
