It is in this area where the two schools differ. Brookline Elementary School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Herrera Elementary School’s only distinction designation is in Science.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Brookline Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 95.68% of student population, followed by African Americans (3.40%), Whites or Caucasians (0.79%) and Asians (0.13%). There is no Native Americans and Two or More Racesstudents in the school.
At Herrera Elementary School, Hispanics make up 96.55% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (1.97%) and African Americans (1.48%). There is no Asians, Native Americans and Two or More Racesstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Brookline Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 96.47% compared to 99.63% at Herrera Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Brookline Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 66.62% of its student population compared to 45.87% at Herrera Elementary School.
In addition, Brookline Elementary School has 61.65% bilingual students, 5.63% are in the gifted and talented program, while 4.58% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Herrera Elementary School with 48.21% bilingual students, 8.51% gifted and talented students and 8.14% students in the special education program.
