Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Brazos Bend Elementary School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, with Hunters Glen Early Literacy Center, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Brazos Bend Elementary School has a regular student population of 706 with a 10.1 students/teacher ratio while Hunters Glen Early Literacy Center has 236 students and a student-teacher ratio of 10 students/teacher ratio.
Brazos Bend Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 88 in student achievement, 91 in school progress and 87 in closing performance gaps. It scored 90 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Brazos Bend Elementary School and Hunters Glen Early Literacy Center are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Brazos Bend Elementary School. They make up for 40.79% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (23.09%), Hispanics (17.00%), African Americans (14.16%), Two or More Races (4.82%) and Native Americans (0.14%).
At Hunters Glen Early Literacy Center, African Americans make up 67.80% of student population, followed by Hispanics (26.27%), Two or More Races (2.97%), Whites or Caucasians (1.69%), Asians (0.85%) and Native Americans (0.42%).
Based on household incomes, the Brazos Bend Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 39.09% compared to 91.53% at Hunters Glen Early Literacy Center.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Brazos Bend Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 32.01% of its student population compared to 13.56% at Hunters Glen Early Literacy Center.
Brazos Bend Elementary School 9.77% are in the special education program, 3.54% are in the gifted and talented program, and bilingual students comprise 31.02% students. Hunters Glen Early Literacy Center has no gifted and talented student, while 12.29% are in the special education program, and bilingual students comprise 13.14% students.
70 teachers employed at Brazos Bend Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 6.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.1 years. The 23 teachers at Hunters Glen Early Literacy Center have been serving the school for an average of 2.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 7.4 years.

Hunters Glen Early Literacy Center no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has one teacher only serving the school for 20-30 years, six teachers have worked for 11-20 years, four teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while seven teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including five beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Brazos Bend Elementary School there are 69 female teachers and one male teacher only. At Hunters Glen Early Literacy Center there are 23 female teachers and zero male teacher. Of its teaching staff, two special education teachers are being assisted by 12 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
