Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. This is a critical transition period for students. Schools focus on preparing them for the more rigorous academic grind in high school.
When we compared Boude Storey Middle School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, with Sam Tasby Middle School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Boude Storey Middle School’s regular student population is 477 with a 13.6 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Sam Tasby Middle School is 771 students and a 13 students/teacher ratio.
Boude Storey Middle School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 60 in student achievement, 88 in school progress and 76 in closing performance gaps. It scored 82 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Sam Tasby Middle School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 65 in student achievement, 81 in school progress, 75 in closing performance gaps and 78 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Both schools garnered only one distinction designation or award for performance. For Boude Storey Middle School this is in with 25% student progress while Sam Tasby Middle School secured one for Mathematics.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Boude Storey Middle School. They make up for 61.01% of student population, followed by African Americans (36.69%), Two or More Races (1.05%), Whites or Caucasians (0.84%) and Asians (0.42%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Sam Tasby Middle School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 63.55% of student population, followed by African Americans (22.83%), Asians (9.73%), Whites or Caucasians (2.59%) and Two or More Races (1.30%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Boude Storey Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 96.44% compared to 96.50% at Sam Tasby Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Boude Storey Middle School has 229 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 48.01% of student population. Sam Tasby Middle School has significantly more ELLs at 557 or about 72.24% of student population.
