Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Blackland Prairie Elementary School, which is a part of ROUND ROCK ISD, with Claude Berkman Elementary School, which is a part of ROUND ROCK ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Blackland Prairie Elementary School has a regular student population of 637 with a 14.5 students/teacher ratio while Claude Berkman Elementary School has 368 students and a student-teacher ratio of 9.6 students/teacher ratio.
Blackland Prairie Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Blackland Prairie Elementary School and Claude Berkman Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Blackland Prairie Elementary School. They make up for 56.67% of student population, followed by Hispanics (22.76%), Asians (12.56%), Two or More Races (4.55%), African Americans (3.14%) and Native Americans (0.16%).
At Claude Berkman Elementary School, Hispanics make up 67.39% of student population, followed by African Americans (15.22%), Whites or Caucasians (12.23%), Two or More Races (3.26%) and Asians (1.63%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Blackland Prairie Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 8.95% compared to 71.20% at Claude Berkman Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Blackland Prairie Elementary School has 45 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 7.06% of student population. Claude Berkman Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 140 or about 38.04% of student population.
Blackland Prairie Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 6.44%, gifted and talented students, 6.44%, while 8.16% are in the special education program. Claude Berkman Elementary School bilingual students comprise 43.21%, gifted and talented students, 3.53%, and 11.41% are in the special education program.
