Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Beckham Elementary School, which is a part of ARLINGTON ISD, with Crow Leadership Academy, which is a part of ARLINGTON ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Beckham Elementary School has a regular student population of 416 with a 14.3 students/teacher ratio while Crow Leadership Academy has 480 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.4 students/teacher ratio.
Beckham Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 77 in student achievement, 90 in school progress and 82 in closing performance gaps. It scored 88 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Crow Leadership Academy earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 54 in student achievement, 82 in school progress, 71 in closing performance gaps and 79 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Beckham Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in Science. Crow Leadership Academy did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Beckham Elementary School. They make up for 29.81% of student population, followed by African Americans (27.64%), Hispanics (25.24%), Whites or Caucasians (10.82%), Two or More Races (6.25%) and Native Americans (0.24%).
At Crow Leadership Academy, Hispanics make up 86.25% of student population, followed by African Americans (6.67%), Whites or Caucasians (4.38%), Two or More Races (1.04%), Asians (0.63%) and Native Americans (0.42%).
Based on household incomes, the Beckham Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 70.19% compared to 95.83% at Crow Leadership Academy.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Beckham Elementary School has 176 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 42.31% of student population. Crow Leadership Academy has significantly more ELLs at 298 or about 62.08% of student population.
Beckham Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 41.11%, gifted and talented students, 10.58%, while 9.62% are in the special education program. Crow Leadership Academy bilingual students comprise 61.88%, gifted and talented students, 7.50%, and 9.79% are in the special education program.
