Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Aue Elementary School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, with Forester Elementary School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Aue Elementary School has a regular student population of 594 with a 14.6 students/teacher ratio while Forester Elementary School has 738 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.8 students/teacher ratio.
Aue Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 92 in student achievement, 90 in school progress and an impressive100 in closing performance gaps. It scored 94 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Forester Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 72 in student achievement, 91 in school progress, 79 in closing performance gaps and 87 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Aue Elementary School's two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and 25% closing performance gaps. Forester Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Aue Elementary School. They make up for 46.13% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (42.26%), Asians (5.89%), Two or More Races (4.71%) and African Americans (1.01%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Forester Elementary School, Hispanics make up 78.05% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (12.60%), African Americans (5.56%), Two or More Races (2.71%), Asians (0.81%) and Native Americans (0.14%).
Based on household incomes, the Aue Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 14.65% compared to 49.86% at Forester Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Aue Elementary School has 24 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 4.04% of student population. Forester Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 210 or about 28.46% of student population.
Aue Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 0.34%, gifted and talented students, 5.39%, while 13.97% are in the special education program. Forester Elementary School bilingual students comprise 31.84%, gifted and talented students, 3.52%, and 15.18% are in the special education program.
40 teachers employed at Aue Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 13.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 15.5 years. The 50 teachers at Forester Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 10.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging 13.2 years.
Of its teaching staff, Aue Elementary School has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 14 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 11 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, six teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while six teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers. Forester Elementary School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has seven teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 24 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, six teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 11 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including one beginning teacher only.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Aue Elementary School there are 38 female teachers and two male teachers. Of its teaching staff, five special education teachers are being assisted by eight teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and five more working as school support staff.
