Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Arthur Kramer Elementary School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, with Paul L Dunbar Learning Center, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Arthur Kramer Elementary School has a regular student population of 474 with a 13.8 students/teacher ratio while Paul L Dunbar Learning Center has 497 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.4 students/teacher ratio.
Arthur Kramer Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 79 in student achievement, 85 in school progress and 75 in closing performance gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Arthur Kramer Elementary School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and Science. Paul L Dunbar Learning Center's three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science and post-secondary.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Arthur Kramer Elementary School. They make up for 47.68% of student population, followed by African Americans (31.86%), Whites or Caucasians (14.35%), Two or More Races (4.43%), Asians (1.48%) and Native Americans (0.21%).
At Paul L Dunbar Learning Center, African Americans make up 67.81% of student population, followed by Hispanics (27.16%), Whites or Caucasians (2.21%), Two or More Races (2.21%), Native Americans (0.40%) and Asians (0.20%).
Based on household incomes, the Arthur Kramer Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 69.20% compared to 96.58% at Paul L Dunbar Learning Center.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Arthur Kramer Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 36.50% of its student population compared to 23.54% at Paul L Dunbar Learning Center.
Arthur Kramer Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 43.88%, gifted and talented students, 17.09%, while 12.03% are in the special education program. Paul L Dunbar Learning Center bilingual students comprise 21.93%, gifted and talented students, 9.86%, and 10.46% are in the special education program.
