Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Andrews Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, with Weatherford Elementary School, which is a part of PLANO ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Andrews Elementary School has a regular student population of 400 with a 12.5 students/teacher ratio while Weatherford Elementary School has 437 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.4 students/teacher ratio.
Andrews Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 94 in student achievement, 93 in school progress and 98 in closing performance gaps. A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Andrews Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics and post-secondary. Weatherford Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Andrews Elementary School. They make up for 53.50% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (25.25%), Hispanics (8.00%), African Americans (7.75%), Two or More Races (5.25%) and Native Americans (0.25%).
The student population at Weatherford Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 51.49%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (24.94%), African Americans (13.04%), Asians (5.95%), Two or More Races (3.66%) and Native Americans (0.92%).
Based on household incomes, the Andrews Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 15.75% compared to 59.73% at Weatherford Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Andrews Elementary School has 107 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 26.75% of student population. Weatherford Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 216 or about 49.43% of student population.
Andrews Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 25.50%, gifted and talented students, 22.00%, while 11.50% are in the special education program. Weatherford Elementary School bilingual students comprise 48.28%, gifted and talented students, 7.09%, and 17.16% are in the special education program.
