Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Alice D Contreras, which is a part of FORT WORTH ISD, with Maude I Logan Elementary School, which is a part of FORT WORTH ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Alice D Contreras has a regular student population of 531 with a 15.7 students/teacher ratio while Maude I Logan Elementary School has 309 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.1 students/teacher ratio.
Alice D Contreras performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Alice D Contreras's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Maude I Logan Elementary School’s three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), post-secondary and with 25% student progress.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Alice D Contreras is Hispanics who make up nearly 94.54% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (2.07%), African Americans (1.69%), Asians (0.75%), Two or More Races (0.75%) and Native Americans (0.19%).
The student population at Maude I Logan Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 53.07%, followed by African Americans (38.51%), Whites or Caucasians (6.15%), Two or More Races (1.62%) and Asians (0.32%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Alice D Contreras’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 91.15% compared to 93.53% at Maude I Logan Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Alice D Contreras has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 56.87% of its student population compared to 32.04% at Maude I Logan Elementary School.
Alice D Contreras’s bilingual students comprise 52.54%, gifted and talented students, 6.78%, while 8.29% are in the special education program. Maude I Logan Elementary School bilingual students comprise 29.77%, gifted and talented students, 3.24%, and 12.30% are in the special education program.
33 teachers employed at Alice D Contreras have been teaching in the school for an average of about 10.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.6 years. The 27 teachers at Maude I Logan Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 14.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 17 years.
