Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Lakewood Elementary School, which is a part of HURST-EULESS-BEDFORD ISD, with Spring Garden Elementary School, which is a part of HURST-EULESS-BEDFORD ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Lakewood Elementary School has a regular student population of 588 with a 15.8 students/teacher ratio while Spring Garden Elementary School has 567 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.4 students/teacher ratio.

It is in this area where the two schools differ. Lakewood Elementary School’s four out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Science, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Spring Garden Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Lakewood Elementary School. They make up for 29.42% of student population, followed by African Americans (27.04%), Whites or Caucasians (27.04%), Asians (8.50%), Two or More Races (6.63%) and Native Americans (0.17%).
The student population at Spring Garden Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 40.21%, followed by Hispanics (25.93%), African Americans (19.58%), Two or More Races (8.11%), Asians (5.11%) and Native Americans (0.35%).
Based on household incomes, Lakewood Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 56.29% compared to 47.27% at Spring Garden Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Lakewood Elementary School has 45 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 7.65% of student population. Spring Garden Elementary School has more ELLs at 54 or about 9.52% of student population.
In addition, Lakewood Elementary School has 6.80% bilingual students, 1.87% are in the gifted and talented program, while 12.59% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Spring Garden Elementary School with 9.17% bilingual students, 4.76% gifted and talented students and 17.46% students in the special education program.
