When we compared Garland McMeans Junior High School, which is a part of KATY ISD, with Mayde Creek Junior High School, which is a part of KATY ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Garland McMeans Junior High School’s regular student population is 1,152 with a 16.6 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Mayde Creek Junior High School is 1,258 students and a 15 students/teacher ratio.

Garland McMeans Junior High School bagged all seven distinction awards in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Mayde Creek Junior High School’s five out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Garland McMeans Junior High School. They make up for 45.14% of student population, followed by Asians (24.74%), Hispanics (18.75%), African Americans (7.03%), Two or More Races (4.25%) and Native Americans (0.09%).
The student population at Mayde Creek Junior High School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 52.38%, followed by African Americans (25.52%), Whites or Caucasians (10.02%), Asians (7.23%), Two or More Races (4.37%) and Native Americans (0.32%).
Based on household incomes, the Garland McMeans Junior High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 24.83% compared to 73.61% at Mayde Creek Junior High School.
