Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Martinez C Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, with Foster Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Martinez C Elementary School’s two out of seven distinctions are in post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Foster Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Martinez C Elementary School. They make up for 56.68% of student population, followed by African Americans (42.35%), Whites or Caucasians (0.33%), Native Americans (0.33%) and Two or More Races (0.33%). There is no Asians student in the school.
At Foster Elementary School, African Americans make up 87.21% of student population, followed by Hispanics (11.00%), Whites or Caucasians (0.77%), Two or More Races (0.77%) and Native Americans (0.26%). There is no Asians student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Martinez C Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 99.02% compared to 98.21% at Foster Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Martinez C Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 30.62% of its student population compared to 5.37% at Foster Elementary School.
Martinez C Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 40.39%, gifted and talented students, 2.61%, while 8.14% are in the special education program. Foster Elementary School bilingual students comprise 5.37%, gifted and talented students, 0.51%, and 7.67% are in the special education program.
