When we compared Quail Valley Middle School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, with Sugar Land Middle School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.

Quail Valley Middle School’s regular student population is 1,001 with a 18 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Sugar Land Middle School is 936 students and a 15.4 students/teacher ratio.

Performance Indicators

Quail Valley Middle School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 92 in student achievement, 91 in school progress and 88 in closing performance gaps. It scored 91 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

On the other hand, Sugar Land Middle School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 76 in student achievement, 81 in school progress, 84 in closing performance gaps and 82 overall in post-secondary readiness.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.

It is in this area where the two schools differ. Quail Valley Middle School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Sugar Land Middle School’s only distinction designation is in Science.

Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Quail Valley Middle School. They make up for 32.77% of student population, followed by African Americans (28.27%), Hispanics (23.88%), Whites or Caucasians (10.09%), Two or More Races (4.60%) and Native Americans (0.40%).

The student population at Sugar Land Middle School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 40.38%, followed by Asians (28.42%), Whites or Caucasians (13.14%), African Americans (12.93%), Two or More Races (4.81%) and Native Americans (0.32%).

Based on household incomes, the Quail Valley Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 43.06% compared to 63.57% at Sugar Land Middle School.

Teachers at Sugar Land Middle School, numbering 60 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 8.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.6 years.

Of its teaching staff, Quail Valley Middle School has three teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has five teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 26 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 12 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while nine teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including one beginning teacher only.
